Born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts
USA, Kate Smethurst earned her Bachelor of Arts from Elon University in North
Carolina in 2006. After completing her degree, Kate went to work for North
Carolina wedding and portrait photographer, Tamara Lackey before marrying and
moving to Australia with her husband in 2007.
Now residing in Melbourne, Kate has spent
the last 2.5 years back at school at the Photography Studies College
undertaking her Advanced Diploma of Photography certification, which she will
complete by the end of 2012.
For the past 2 years, Kate has been
mentored by and worked as an associate wedding and family/children’s portrait photographer
for Jane Poynter of Ms. Jane Photography. She has recently had a wedding
featured on theknot.com.au. Kate is also a registered member of the Australian
Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP).
Kate’s style is simple, photojournalistic
and unobtrusive. She prides herself on capturing quiet, candid and natural
moments.
In the future, Kate plans to start up her
own wedding and portrait photography business back in her hometown of Boston,
Massachusetts.
